(125 mi / 200 km)

(268 mi / 431 km)
Continue east through Palm Desert, Indian Wells and the vast Coachella Valley as you pass Joshua Tree National Park. Cross the Colorado River at Blythe and enter the “Grand Canyon State” of Arizona. Arrive late afternoon in Phoenix – the “Valley of the Sun.” Enjoy an evening at leisure in this Southwestern resort town that combines a rustic Western atmosphere with luxury.

Day 4 PHOENIX / SCOTTSDALE – SEDONA – GRAND CANYON NATIONAL PARK
(226 mi / 364 km)
Depart north through the desert landscape of barren rock and Saguaro cactus into the Verde Valley. Take a side trip to visit Montezuma Castle, an imposing 5-storey ruin of a Native American cliff dwelling built into a white limestone cliff. Then continue north to secluded Sedona. Ascend through Oak Creek Canyon to Flagstaff then continue to Grand Canyon National Park. Spend your afternoon strolling along the South Rim of this awe-inspiring spectacle of colorful ever-changing rock formations.

Day 5 GRAND CANYON NATIONAL PARK – MONUMENT VALLEY – PAGE / LAKE POWELL
(298 mi / 485 km)
Take time this morning to discover the sunrise over the Grand Canyon's South Rim and then leave the canyon behind as you enter Navajo country and the Painted Desert. Take a popular route through sparsely populated Indian Country to Monument Valley, where isolated monoliths of red sandstone tower 1,000 ft (305 m) above the valley floor. Arrive in Page, site of massive man-made Lake Powell. Learn about life in the early days of the canyon and the building of this remarkable engineering wonder at the Carl Hayden Visitor Center. Page overlooks the dark blue waters of Lake Powell.

Day 6 PAGE / LAKE POWELL – BRYCE CANYON NATIONAL PARK – ZION NATIONAL
PARK (291 mi / 466 km)
A morning departure north into Utah passes through scenic Kanab and takes you to the land of hoodoos known as Bryce Canyon National Park. Heading south, make the detour to see Cedar Breaks National Monument with more magical rock formations in even more vivid hues. Then continue on to Zion National Park, a monument of time carved by wind and water and well known for geological features with names like The Three Patriarchs, Bridge Mountain, White Throne and the hidden Temple of Sinawava.

Day 7 ZION NATIONAL PARK – LAS VEGAS
(159 mi / 256 km)
Depart this morning for Las Vegas. On the way, take a short detour and visit Nevada’s oldest State Park, Valley of Fire. The rough floor and jagged walls of the park contain brilliant formations of eroded sandstone and sand dunes that often appear to be on fire when reflecting the sun's rays. From the fantastic works of nature to the man-made miracle in the desert – welcome to Las Vegas!

Day 8 LAS VEGAS
This is a day at leisure. Las Vegas is a city that never sleeps. The “Strip” will mesmerize you with its dazzling lights, casino action and opulent hotels with their lavish shows and headline performers. Try your hand with “Lady Luck” or see one of the famous shows. Take the time to visit the well known resorts with their individual themes and a myriad of attractions or just relax poolside.

Day 9 LAS VEGAS – DEATH VALLEY NATIONAL PARK
(187 mi / 301 km)
Depart westward into the desert and Death Valley National Park. This area of unexpected contrasts offers eerie sites of barren desolation including the lowest point in the Western Hemisphere and mountains over 11,000 ft (3,353 m). Make a photo stop at Badwater, which is 282 ft (86 m) below sea level or hike to Zabriskie Point for impressive views of the valley. Drive along colorful formations before visiting the oasis of Furnace Creek Ranch, located in the center of the expansive valley.

Day 10 DEATH VALLEY NATIONAL PARK – YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK
(334 mi / 537 km)
When leaving Death Valley over the Towne Pass make it a point to look back into the Valley at the overlook. Imagine what the original immigrants thought after completing the same journey on foot…hence the name Death Valley. Cross the dry Owens Valley and ascend into the tree covered Sierra foothills this morning. Cross the mountains through winding roads and narrow passes as you ascend the Sierra Mountains on a stop to the popular mountain resort, Mammoth Lakes. Continue north and enter the Tioga Pass*, the eastern gateway to Yosemite National Park. Continue to your hotel in the area.
*The Tioga Pass is a seasonal road that usually opens from late June to early October. To reach Yosemite National Park at other times of the year, you may travel through Fresno’s Central Valley and enter the park through the western entrance. This route is approximately 100 M / 170 KM longer.

Day 11 YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK – SAN FRANCISCO
(193 mi / 310 km)
Take this time to visit magnificent Yosemite early in the morning. The most picturesque spots in Yosemite can be seen from the valley floor Yosemite Falls, El Capitan, Half Dome and Cathedral Spires. Continue to San Francisco in the afternoon as you pass through scenic Gold Rush Country before crossing the Oakland Bay Bridge to enter America’s favorite city by the sea. This cosmopolitan city rests on 40 hills surrounded on one side by the Pacific Ocean and on the other by the San Francisco Bay. There is so much to see with breathtaking views around every hilltop.

Day 12 SAN FRANCISCO
Today, tour and explore this unique city and its setting. Take a ride on the famous San Francisco Cable Cars for a visit to the Cable Car Museum, stroll through Chinatown, or take a boat tour of Alcatraz. Perhaps cross the bay on a ferry to Sausalito for a first-hand look at local galleries with great views of the bay. If time permits, make the short drive north over the Golden Gate Bridge to California’s premier wine regions of Napa and Sonoma.

Day 13 SAN FRANCISCO – 17-MILE DRIVE – CALIFORNIA COAST
(271 mi / 436 km)
Leave your heart in San Francisco and depart south along the scenic Pacific Coast to Santa Cruz and the Monterey Bay. While in historic Monterey, visit California’s first customs house and Cannery Row made famous through John Steinbeck’s book of the same name. Take the 17-Mile Drive, a scenic coastal route through the Del Monte Forest that includes The Lone Cypress Point and world famous Pebble Beach to Carmel-by-the-Sea. California’s most scenic coastal areas lie between Big Sur and San Simeon. End this day of picturesque splendor in the California coastal region.

Day 14 CALIFORNIA COAST – LOS ANGELES
(167 mi / 269 km)
Take the coastal highway to the well-known community of millionaires and movie stars, Santa Barbara. Located at the base of the Santa Ynez Mountains, this stylish beach community offers a relaxed atmosphere with a Mediterranean climate. California’s “Queen of the Missions” is located on a hillside overlooking the city. If there is time, make a stop at the ornate and historic courthouse before continuing through Ventura and Malibu to the Los Angeles International Airport for your departure.
