DAY 1: LOS ANGELES
Arrive in Los Angeles and proceed to your hotel. The day is free to enjoy. Whether it's Universal Studios or Disneyland, the beach or Beverly Hills, there is much to see in the City of Angels.
DAY 2: LOS ANGELES – DISNEYLAND – PALM SPRINGS (135m / 216km)
This morning depart Los Angeles for Anaheim and for an optional visit to the original Magic Kingdom Disneyland. Depart coastal California and enter the vast Mojave Desert before arriving in fashionable Palm Springs. Relax by the poolside at your hotel or explore the winter playground of the stars, Palm Springs.
DAY 3: PALM SPRINGS – PHOENIX / SCOTTSDALE (280m / 448km)
Continue east through Palm Desert, Indian Wells and the vast Coachella Valley as you pass Joshua Tree National Park. Cross the Colorado River at Blythe and enter the "Grand Canyon State" of Arizona. Arrive late afternoon in the "Valley of the Sun" - Phoenix / Scottsdale. Enjoy an evening at leisure in this Southwestern resort town that combines a rustic Western atmosphere with luxury.
DAY 4: PHOENIX / SCOTTSDALE – SEDONA – GRAND CANYON (220m / 352km)
Depart north through desert landscape of barren rock and Saguaro cactus into the Verde Valley. Take a side trip to visit Montezuma Castle, a well-preserved Native American cliff dwelling, before heading north to secluded Sedona. Ascend through Oak Creek Canyon to Flagstaff, and then continue to supernatural Grand Canyon. Spend your afternoon strolling along the South Rim of this awe-inspiring spectacle of ever changing colorful rock formations.
DAY 5: GRAND CANYON – MONUMENT VALLEY NAVAJO TRIBAL PARK – LAKE POWELL / PAGE (311m / 498km)
Depart the Grand Canyon and follow the South Rim east to Navajo country. Cross the Little Colorado Gorge at Cameron and drive through the Painted Desert, ancestral home to both the Navajo and Hopi Indian nations. Spend the afternoon among the jagged peaks and towering buttes of Monument Valley. Arrive in Lake Powell and Page, Arizona, known for its hidden canyons.
DAY 6: PAGE – BRYCE CANYON – ZION NATIONAL PARK/ST. GEORGE (261m / 418km)
A morning departure north into Utah passes through scenic Kanab and takes you to the land of hoodoos known as Bryce Canyon National Park. After exploring supernatural Bryce Canyon, return south to Zion National Park, a monument of time carved by wind and water and well known for geological features with names like The Three Patriarchs, Bridge Mountain, White Throne and the hidden Temple of Sinawava. After visiting the park, continue the short distance south to St. George.
DAY 7: ZION NATIONAL PARK/ ST. GEORGE – LAS VEGAS (118m / 190km)
Should you desire, revisit Zion National Park to see more of this impressive gorge carved by the mighty Virgin River. Then continue to Las Vegas. Before arriving, you may want to make a diversion to marvel at the Hoover Dam, one of the highest dams ever constructed. Arrive in Las Vegas, the man-made miracle in the desert.
DAY 8: LAS VEGAS
This day is at leisure. Las Vegas is a city that never sleeps. Try your hand with “Lady Luck” or see one of the many famous shows with top-name performers. This city of glitz and glamour will dazzle you with its colossal hotels, glittering lights, casino action and headline shows. Take the time to visit the well-known resorts with their individual themes and a myriad of attractions or just relax poolside.
DAY 9: LAS VEGAS – DEATH VALLEY NATIONAL PARK (263m / 420km)
Depart westward deep into the Mojave Desert for an early break in Death Valley National Park, an area of unexpected contrasts. Here you'll find the lowest point in the Western Hemisphere, mountains over 11,000 feet (3,350 m), large sand dunes, isolated valleys and volcanic craters. Cross the high desert Towne Pass with spectacular views of the Sierra Nevada Mountains and descend into neighboring Panamint Valley.
DAY 10: DEATH VALLEY NATIONAL PARK – MAMMOTH LAKES – YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK/OAKHURST (322m / 518km)
Cross the dry Owens Valley and ascend into the tree covered Sierra foothills this morning. Cross the mountains through winding roads and narrow passes as you ascend the Sierra Mountains and a stop to the popular mountain resort, Mammoth Lakes. Continue north and enter the Tioga Pass, the eastern gateway to Yosemite National Park. (The Tioga Pass is a seasonal road that usually opens from late June to early October. To reach Yosemite National Park at other times of the year, you may travel through Fresno's Central Valley and enter park through the western entrance). Continue into the Sierra foothills to Oakhurst for your overnight.
DAY 11: OAKHURST / YOSEMITE – SAN FRANCISCO (225m / 380km)
Take this time to visit magnificent Yosemite early in the morning. The most picturesque spots in Yosemite can be seen from the valley floor: Yosemite Falls, El Capitan, Half Dome and Cathedral Spires. Continue to San Francisco in the afternoon as you pass through scenic Gold Rush Country before crossing the Oakland Bay Bridge to enter America’s favorite city by the sea. This cosmopolitan city rests on 40 hills surrounded on one side by the Pacific Ocean and on the other by the San Francisco Bay. There is so much to see with breathtaking views around every hilltop.
DAY 12: SAN FRANCISCO
Full day to tour and explore the city and its setting. Taking a boat tour to Alcatraz Island, enjoying a ride on the San Francisco Cable Cars, or strolling through Chinatown are just a few of many favorite activities for visitors. Perhaps you would like to cross the bay on a ferry to Sausalito for a first-hand look at local galleries offering works of neighboring artists. Should you desire, it is also possible to drive the short distance north to Napa and Sonoma Valleys and visit California Wine Country.
DAY 13: SAN FRANCISCO – 17-MILE DRIVE – CALIFORNIA COAST (271m / 434km)
Leave your heart in San Francisco and depart south along the scenic Pacific Coast to Santa Cruz and the Monterey Bay. While in historic Monterey, visit California's first customs house and Cannery Row made famous through John Steinbeck's book of the same name. Take the 17-Mile Drive, a scenic coastal route through the Del Monte Forest that includes The Lone Cypress Point and world famous Pebble Beach to Carmel-by-the-Sea. California's most scenic coastal areas lie between Big Sur and San Simeon. End this day of picturesque splendor in the California coastal region.
DAY 14: CALIFORNIA COAST – SANTA BARBARA – LOS ANGELES (158m / 225km)
Take the coastal highway to the well-known community of millionaires and movie stars, Santa Barbara. Located at the base of the Santa Ynez Mountains, this stylish beach community offers a relaxed atmosphere with a Mediterranean climate. California's ‘Queen of the Missions’ is located on a hillside overlooking the city. Make a stop at the ornate and historic courthouse before continuing to Ventura, Malibu and your starting destination, Los Angeles.
