Itinerary

DAY 1: LOS ANGELES
Arrive in Los Angeles and proceed to your hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure to enjoy the ‘City of Angels’. Whether it's Universal Studios or Disneyland, the beach or Beverly Hills, there's so much to see and do.

DAY 2: LOS ANGELES – SANTA BARBARA – CENTRAL CALIFORNIA COAST (230m / 368km)
This morning depart northward along the Pacific Coast Highway through Malibu and past the hillside homes of the rich and famous. Make a stop in idyllic Santa Barbara with its wide palm-lined beach and home to one of California's most beautiful missions. Continue to San Simeon located along the coast just a short distance from historic Hearst Castle.

DAY 3: CENTRAL CALIFORNIA COAST – MONTEREY – SAN FRANCISCO (218m / 349km)
Depart for Monterey and make your way along spectacular California Highway One as it hugs the mountainside wandering northward. Visit the artists’ enclave of Carmel or take the world-famous 17-Mile Drive with stunning vistas of the rugged Pacific Coast to Cannery Row in historic Monterey. Arrive early evening in exciting San Francisco. A nighttime stroll through Chinatown is highly recommended.

DAY 4: SAN FRANCISCO
A day at leisure to explore the diversity of San Francisco by Cable Car or by foot. Visit Fisherman's Wharf and shop at Union Square, home to some of the most unique stores on the West Coast. Take a drive north over the Golden Gate Bridge to Muir Woods for a look at the giant coast redwoods. On the return trip, visit the seaside villages of Tiburon or Sausalito, where you can admire the best panorama of the city.

DAY 5: SAN FRANCISCO – YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK (225m / 380km)
This morning depart from the Pacific Coast towards the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Crossing the Oakland Bay Bridge, pass through scenic Gold Rush Country before arriving to Yosemite National Park. Explore the valley floor with unforgettable vistas of granite peaks and cascading waterfalls.

DAY 6: YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK – SEQUOIA NATIONAL PARK /VISALIA (280m / 450km)
Revisit Yosemite in the early morning hours for the most peaceful moments in the park. Cross through Fresno, the raisin capital of the world in the agricultural heartland of the Central Valley. Return via orange groves and the foothills of the Sierras for this afternoon’s visit to Sequoia National Park, home to the giant Sequoia trees. Be sure to take the hike through the Giant Forest grove to the massive General Sherman Tree considered to be the largest living thing on Earth. Continue to Visalia.

DAY 7: SEQUOIA NATIONAL PARK/VISALIA – MOJAVE DESERT – DEATH VALLEY NATIONAL PARK (305m / 488km)
Depart the rich farmlands of central California over the Tehachapi pass for a stark contrast in natural scenery. This is the desert country of Mojave consisting of barren landscape, cactus and Joshua Trees. The city of Mojave is home to Voyager, famous for being the first airplane to circle the earth on one tank of fuel in 1986. Continue on to the lowest point in North America, unique Death Valley National Park.

DAY 8: DEATH VALLEY NATIONAL PARK – LAS VEGAS (150m / 240km)
An early morning departure takes you to Death Valley National Park, an area of unexpected contrasts, containing isolated valleys, large sand dunes, sculpted rocks and volcanic craters. Enjoy the desert oasis, Furnace Creek Ranch. Drive to Zabriskie Point and its breathtaking views of the foreboding surroundings. Then on to the sparkling man-made oasis, Las Vegas, which provides a stark contrast to the barren desert.

DAY 9: LAS VEGAS
Relax with a day at leisure. Las Vegas truly is a city that never sleeps. Perhaps try your hand with “Lady Luck” or just lounge at poolside and soak in the sunshine. During the evening take in one of the shows on the "Strip", lined with some of the largest and most luxurious hotels in the world. Make sure to plan a visit to downtown Las Vegas where you'll find the Fremont Experience light show and plenty of casino action.

DAY 10: LAS VEGAS– ZION – BRYCE CANYON (265m / 424km)
Today's departure will take you into the state of Utah. Travel past the town of St.George to Zion National Park. Enter the southern entrance through Zion Canyon, a spectacular gorge cut into the desert. Depart to Bryce Canyon National Park. The remainder of the afternoon is available to visit some of the most colorful and interesting rock formations found anywhere.

DAY 11: BRYCE CANYON NATIONAL PARK – CAPITOL REEF NATIONAL PARK – MOAB (CANYONLANDS AND ARCHES NATIONAL PARKS) (270m / 432km)
Sunrise in Bryce Canyon National Park is a spectacular way to start this day. Continue east through some of the largest wilderness areas in the country. Travel through Capitol Reef National Park, an area of reef-like cliffs capped by white sandstone formations. Arrive into picturesque Moab.

DAY 12: MOAB
Day at leisure. Moab is a great starting point for jeep, plane, whitewater rafting, hiking or canoeing trips into the surrounding parks: Canyonlands National Park and Dead Horse State Park. The remarkable Arches National Park contains the largest number of natural stone arches in the country and makes a perfect setting for a sunset.

DAY 13: MOAB – MONUMENT VALLEY (160m / 256km)
Continue south and cross the state border into Arizona. Northern Arizona is home to the Navajo indian. The high-point of this day will be a visit to the Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park. It is a remarkable landscape of red sandstone buttes and mesas rising 1000 feet (300m) above the valley floor.

DAY 14: MONUMENT VALLEY – PAINTED DESERT – GRAND CANYON NATIONAL PARK (SOUTH RIM) (170m / 272km)
Make sure to depart early today in order to make time for the Painted Desert, a scenic desert whose landscape changes continuously. Then continue onward to one of the world's most outstanding spectacles, the magnificent Grand Canyon. Encounter a world of multi-colored hues reflected on the mile deep walls created by the eroding forces of the Colorado River. At sunset be sure to see the fantastic, ever changing panorama of rock formations from Hopi point.

DAY 15: GRAND CANYON – SELIGMAN / ROUTE 66 – LAUGHLIN (220m / 352km)
Early morning is perfect for viewing the Grand Canyon at sunrise. Depart south via Williams and continue west to Seligman. This was once a bustling town on America's mother road Route 66 and prides itself as one of the last original outposts of the highway. The stretch from here to Kingman is the longest remaining portions of the historic road. Stay in Laughlin along the banks of the Colorado River.

DAY 16: LAUGHLIN – PALM SPRINGS – LOS ANGELES (280m / 448km)
Depart for Palm Springs, an oasis of golf courses and resorts located in heart of the Cochella Valley. This retreat for the rich and famous has been home to everyone from Bob Hope to Betty Ford. Make sure to stop in the Desert Museum for an informative interpretation on desert flora and fauna. Continue the leisurely drive through San Bernardino and the San Gabriel Valley en route to Los Angeles.
